There are many types of headaches which present themselves in different ways. The International Headache Society in 1988 released criteria on classification in which twelve different categories were presented.
Main types of headaches
There are three main types of headaches:
1. Cervicogenic headaches
usually caused by misalignment or nerve irritation in the upper neck. This causes pain from the back of the head to the front on only on one side of the head.
2. Migraine headaches
can be very distressing and last from a few hours to several days. Symptoms include pain, dizziness, nausea, and visual disturbance.
3. Tension-Type headaches
the most common type of headache and the one we think as a normal, everyday headache. May feel like a constant ache that affects both sides of the head. Can last for an hour to even days in persistent examples.
Relief after treatment
Often patients who seek chiropractic care from our experienced team find relief from their cervicogenic headaches (headaches caused by neck problems). Patients suffering with migraine and tension-type headache may experience a significant reduction in the frequency and severity of headache episodes.
