An award winning team
Our amazing team enjoys being at work. We’ll guide you on your road to recovery with a smile and a helping hand. In 2012 and again in 2015, our clinic was awarded the College of Chiropractic’s Patient Partnership Quality Mark (PPQM).
Arif Soomro DC, CCPP, FICPA, RMCC (Paeds) qualified as a Chiropractor in 1988 from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in Bournemouth, then the only Chiropractic College in the country. After working in Chelmsford he set up the Cliffs Chiropractic Clinic in 1994 with his wife Melanie whom he met whilst at College.
Arif believes in the principle- treat others as you wish to be treated. "Our patients deserve excellence and I believe every patient should be treated as if they were a member of my own family. To me this means caring for everyone as an individual, always explaining every aspect of their care and giving the best possible treatment all the time."
Education is fundamental to this principle both in informing the patient and continuing to expand our knowledge. Arif believes in treating the patient not merely the condition and has furthered his knowledge by taking post-graduate courses in paediatric chiropractic, medical acupuncture, craniopathy and nutrition.
His philosophy means he will look at all aspects of your life to try and discover the cause of your problem and his broad knowledge base and vast experience will enable him to make a tailor made package of care to suit you as an individual.
Paramjit Nandhra qualified as a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) after graduating with a BSc Honours degree in Chiropractic at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic (WIOC), University of Glamorgan in 2004.
Paramjit is patient-centred and dedicated to the best patient care available. He has a very keen interest in postural correction, sports injuries, biomechanics, rehabilitation, lifelong health and wellbeing. He has gained extensive clinical experience over the years and constantly strives to expand his chiropractic knowledge and skills to provide his patients with a personalised and highly effective method. His functional approach aims to get patients enjoying a pain-free status whilst participating in all the activities of daily life that they enjoyed previously, be that running, gardening or even looking after children.
He believes in the importance of incorporating all aspects of a patient's life into their treatment plans. This includes but is not limited to: posture, occupational and personal stress and general health.
He regularly attends conferences and seminars. His continued professional development has included completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Chiropractic Development.

Melanie focuses on taking a holistic approach to all her patients and can combine chiropractic, medical acupuncture and herbalism if patients so wish. "I am dedicated to achieving the best possible results for all my patients and my many years of clinical experience with a huge range of conditions enables me to enjoy the challenge of treating patients with even the most chronic complaints."
Toby is a qualified Sports Therapist and masseur. Toby studied and gained his degree in Sports Therapy in 2015 in Coventry and has now returned to his home town of Southend. A keen sportsman he enjoys cricket, having played at Essex County Club, running and cycling. During his pre and post degrees Toby has gained experience assisting leading physiotherapists in various sports and whilst working at Cliffs will continue as Sports therapist with Southend United Football Club.
“My key interests are problem solving, diagnosis and developing targeted exercises that are both effective and fun. Working in a chiropractic setting is a brilliant opportunity and I knew I was in the right place when even Arif and Melanie’s dog Enzo gave me a hug! I am excited to do my very best for the patients and be part of an outstanding award winning team where my skills can grow and be put to great use.”
One last thing about Toby , he plays guitar and loves Frank Sinatra!
I first started massaging 10 years ago whilst working as a fitness instructor post degree. I wanted to further develop my skills in the sports and exercise industry, and I knew how much massage could help people due to having had them myself for various muscular difficulties. The initial course was Swedish massage, i enjoyed the anatomy and physiology, however it just wasn't enough, I knew that deep tissue massage was the best and most beneficial kind of massage, for me anyway! I joined a sports massage course the year after at Lowestoft College and did this on my days off from work. I loved the course so much and it showed me even more how the effects of massage could benefit, not only sports people, but anyone. Whether people have long standing problems, or whether they are fully fit and functioning, it taught me that there is more to health and fitness than pills and potions and that health can be gained by many different things. After doing this for a few years i decided to take my carer and interests further and i am now a full time paramedic, and have kept up the massage as a hobby. Having now been a paramedic for 8 years i obviously have my own injuries and aches and pains, made worse by an injury at work in October. I was given Arif's number by a friend and haven't looked back since. Arif and Melanie have done wonders for my back and i am very grateful to them for that, however being a 'poor NHS worker' i was unable to afford treatments as regularly as i needed, therefore Melanie offered to do a swapsie's...massage for a chiropractic treatment! She must have enjoyed the massage as the next week Arif was talking to me about working for the clinic! I have always wanted to take massage and holistic therapies further so i jumped at the chance!
Having a personal passion for health and fitness led me to pursue a career as a Massage Therapist. I wanted to be able to improve, enhance and support others with their well-being and knew that soft tissue therapy could be beneficial in helping to treat many various conditions. I studied at the North London School of Sports Massage and gained a Level 5 Diploma in Sports and Remedial Massage. As well as providing massage therapy I can also advise on exercises and stretching, which can be beneficial as part of a patient’s homecare treatment.
When the chance arose to become part of the Cliffs Chiropractic team I was overjoyed. Having the opportunity to work within highly this respected award winning clinic, alongside like-minded professionals and provide treatment that compliments the healing process is fantastic! Each day I am able to make a difference to how people feel is a fulfilling and rewarding experience.
I am always keen to continue developing my knowledge and skills further consistent with the Clinics desire for constant innovation and enhancing the patient experience. To maintain my own fitness I regularly attend the gym, participating in resistance training and cardio vascular training. I also practise yoga, enjoy cycling and walking along the seafront as well as cooking and reading.
I look forward to meeting you and helping enhance your life!
