Keep your back safe on your summer holidays with advice from a chiropractor in Southend

Summer is in full swing. For most of us that means plenty of BBQ’s, lots of sport, outdoor living and time spent at the beach. It also means the annual summer holidays. Whether you are going abroad or staying in the UK you will be eagerly awaiting your summer plans. Whatever your plans my advice to you as a leading chiropractor in Southend is to keep your back safe during this period.

Your time off work may be spent on a fitness camp, zip wiring down a gorge or white water rafting. It may include painting your garden fence and trimming the hedges, it may include lounging on a lilo. These are all activities that if you’re not careful can lead to back pain.

As part of my duties as a chiropractor in Southend I often advise my clients how to keep their back safe on their summer holidays.  If you are getting ready for your holiday then we have put together some tips to help you avoid unnecessary injuries while handling your luggage:

  • Buy the lightest case you can and ensure it has wheels. Always check the weight of the empty case – looks can be deceiving.
  • Pack two lighter cases rather than on heavy one. Distributing the weight across 2 cases will make them easier and safer to carry.
  • Push your case in front of you if it has wheels. Most people pull their cases behind them which in turn cause them to twist their bodies and backs. This in turn can lead to undue strain on your back.
  • Start your journey rested. Many accidents and injuries result from tiredness. Get a good night’s sleep before travelling and keep mindful of your actions.
  • Don’t overdo it. Whether you are resting on a sun lounger or racing down a cycle track you must listen to your body and don’t push it to extremes.

If you have concerns over a back injury please get in touch with us as we offer a lot of help and advice to get you back up and running as soon as possible. Contact us on 01702 430430 or email us at info@CliffsChiro.co.uk to get in touch.

We treat children at Cliffs Chiropractor Southend

Chiropractor southendChiropractor SouthendAs a team of leading chiropractors in Southend we often treat a large variety of people with differing problems. We pride ourselves in providing excellent customer service alongside an expert delivery in our area. We aim to look at your problem, find a solution and lead you on your way to healing it.

We even treat children at Cliffs Chiropractic clinic Southend. It is often little recognised that children and youngsters can suffer with the same problems with the spine and joints as adults. These problems can in turn result in muscles in their neck, back and extremities to tighten. This tightening can cause the bones of the spine or other joints to lose their normal motion or move out of position.

It’s unfortunate that all too often a child’s pain may be put down to growing pains and further treatment is not sought.

It can be quite difficult to find a good chiropractor that is qualified to work with children. Additional chiropractic skills are required to diagnose and treat new babies and children as their spines are immature.

At Cliffs Chiropractic Clinic Southend one of our highly experienced team of chiropractors, Dr Arif Soomro, is one of the country’s more established paediatric practitioners and the areas only Certified Chiropractic Paediatric Practitioner. The clinic also has the equipment and techniques that allow anxious patients or nervous children to gain confidence and achieve results.

If you have concerns over a back injury for your child then please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us as we offer a lot of help and advice in this area.Contact us on 01702 430430 or email us at info@CliffsChiro.co.uk to get in touch.

Paul Martin – Treated By A Cliffs Chiropractor in Southend

Patient treated at Cliffs Chiropractor SouthendFifteen years ago I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, finding myself trapped between the garage wall and my car rolling towards me. The compression to my hips and knees required operations to get me walking but the pain didn’t go and I was diagnosed with Chronic Pain Syndrome (CPS). The only relief was to take 8 strong pain killers a day for nerve damage.

In January this year I met Arif, who had already helped my wife and daughter after a car accident. I was already on a coarse of physiotherapy which for me had very little effect. Arif examined me and a set of x-rays were taken.

He worked out the crush had distorted my pelvis and twisted my hips and knees,(imagine Charlie Chaplin’s legs). The chiropractic adjustments to my knees, hips and pelvis meant I had greater range of movements to my lower body. Better still, I was able to reduce my medication in stages. After several weeks I have gone from 8 tablets a day to 2-3 a week. I expect to be off them completely in a month or two.

I was amazed how much difference and progress has been made in such a short time. When it was suggested to me to visit the clinic I was reluctant as I felt I had been under the hospital for such a long time coping with the condition. Arif certainly is excellent in his field and his balanced treatment plan and explanations were logical and easy to understand.

The clinic has a warm welcome and the staff are just great. Very professional from start to finish. I recommend this clinc to anyone!” Paul Martin, Benfleet

Can a Chiropractor Help with Sports Injuries? A leading Chiropractor in Southend thinks so

Sporting activity is a great way to spend your spare time. Honing your skills, getting fit and socialising with your friends is all very positive. There are very few downsides to playing a sport but one of them is pretty big, sporting injuries.

Sporting injuries can cause people a lot of pain and issues in later life and it is therefore important we look after ourselves in this regard. There are a few things we can do to help us look after ourselves and the most important one is to reduce the chance of a sporting injury. As an expert chiropractor in Southend I believe by staying fit, stretching/warming up and knowing your limits we can avoid a lot of injuries.

Prevention is all well and good but sometimes there is no avoiding a sporting injury and treatment will be needed. Being a leading chiropractor in Southend I often get asked advice from patients in this area and as a chiropractor I can certainly offer advice and help you recover from your injury.

Broadly speaking, sports injuries can be classified as either traumatic or overuse type injuries. Traumatic injuries are usually caused in contact type sports such as football or rugby.

Overuse injuries are sustained as a result of repetitive actions being undertaken. This type of injury is common amongst runners, cyclists, people who do yoga, as well as those playing sports like golf, tennis or bowling

The treatment for any sporting injury will depend upon the degree of damage sustained by the patient and the type of injury sustained. We also take into account the patient’s age.

After a visit to my chiropractic clinic in Witney we would assess you and start you on a recovery programme using our knowledge and expertise.

If you have any sporting injuries please get in touch with us as we offer a lot of help and advice to get you back up and running as soon as possible. Contact us on 01702 430430 or email us at info@CliffsChiro.co.uk to get in touch.

Ahh So Pretty! Our Front Office Team at Cliffs Chiropractor Southend

the front office team at Cliffs Chiropractor SouthendIf you ever wondered what it takes to work as part of the front office team at the clinic, here’s a clue, smile and be happy!

Lisa, Gill, Sue and Sarah all completed the 2014 Southend Twilight Colourthon on Saturday 5th of July and are on course to raise £1,000 for Havens Hospice.

Thank you so much to all our fantastic patients for their generous donations and cheering support on route.

Arif did suggest the tu’tus could be adopted as part of the uniform. Can we have a show of patient hands for all in favour?!

Dev had something to share when he lasted visited Cliffs Chiropactor Southend

chiropractic for children at Cliffs Chiropractor SouthendWhen 4 year old Dev came to see Arif a few weeks ago, he presented with a left arm and leg that failed to move correctly and caused him to repeatedly fall when he tried to run or walk fast.

The result was he had lost the confidence to run and wouldn’t play energetically with other children.

Arif was able to identify the cause of his problem which required both a chiropractic and nutritional approach.

When Dev burst into our clinic in early July, his bright little face couldn’t wait to tell Arif all his news.

The previous day he had the confidence to run in his school sports day and came first! How fantastic is that.. we were all crying with joy.

Treating and working with young children is not always easy but the amazing results I so often experience make it one of the most rewarding treatments on offer in the clinic.

It was a joyful occasion, the weather was hot and sunny and the small marque was packed with people all relating their success stories about their experience of the clinic.

Arif’s speech was heartfelt and moving giving thanks to the many who have helped the clinic on its way; parents, colleagues, staff including the marvellous reception team, the business community and most significantly the patients.

We are celebrating not 20 yrs of being in practice but 20 yrs of following our dream, to heal and improve the lives of as many people as we can…we exist because of you and for you…we feel proud and privileged.

Afterwards there was hardly a dry eye in the guests. Arif explained the vision of the clinic which is shared by all the team, including Paramjit Nandhra who has been with Arif and Melanie driving the clinic forward for nearly 10 years,

…to be the gold standard for patient car in what we do in the field of musculo-skeletal medicine by serving our patients and staff as we would wish to be treated.

Among their achievements that Cliffs Chiropractic Clinic can list:

  • Being Southend’s oldest clinic.
  • The first UK chiropractic clinic to install computer radiography (even before many hospitals including Southend).
  • One of the first clinics to have organised child screenings.
  • To be one of only 2 chiropractic clinics in England and Wales to be registered with and accountable to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) .
  • To awarded the PPQM in 2012 and the CMQM in 2013 by the Royal College of Chiropractic for patient services and clinical governance.
  • To be awarded in 2014 the “What Clinic” Customer Service Award.
  • To achieve at Fryerning and Ingatestone RC Junior school a back care strategy that included a bi-daily exercise routine and installing ergonomic desks and seats that were individually adjustable to each child.
  • Supported Trinity local junior football team providing them with a full team strip.

Arif finished his speech by quoting from the founder of chiropractic,

It is better to light one candle than curse the darkness. You never know how much you think say or do today can effect the lives of millions tomorrow…

Sir Teddy made a sincere and touching reply telling of the many good stories he had heard about the clinic in the 20 years since he had opened it in 1994. Councillor  Chris Walker also delivered a speech with great humour.

The event was commemorated with the unveiling of a life saving defibrillator that will not only be available within the clinic but also to the wider local community.

Did you know that there are around 60,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK every year.

Acting quickly when someone is in cardiac arrest and fighting for their life is crucially important.

At our our recent 20th Anniversary Party we announced that we have invested in a Life Saving Defibrillator. Here are Arif, Melanie and Paz sharing the good news with Sir Teddy Taylor and His Worshipful the Mayor Chris Walker while they open our new defibrillator, also known as an AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

When someone goes into cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces their chances of survival by 10%.

A defibrillator is a machine that delivers an electric shock to the heart when someone is having a cardiac arrest.

At Cliff Chiropractor Southend we take the health of our patients and the local community very seriously and we are proud to be able to have the Defibrillator at the Clinic should it be needed by a patient. The Defibrillator is also availabel for any member of the local community.
