We’ll let Sophie introduce herself to you …

Hi my name is Sophie, the newest member of the wonderful reception team. For the last 7 years I have been a full time Mum to my two gorgeous children & before that I worked in London as a PA. The Cliffs Chiropractic Clinic is renowned for patient care & satisfaction so when I saw the position for a new Receptionist advertised, I knew immediately that I wanted to be part of this fantastic team. Thank you to everyone for being so welcoming & I look forward to meeting many more of you as I settle in.

We received hundreds of applications for the role and Arif says “After sifting through hundreds of applications we were impressed with Sophie’s energy, enthusiasm and open face which we felt naturally lended her to joining our team culture and contributing to the patient experience.”

We’re really excited to have Sophie join us and we’re sure she is going to be an invaluable member of our team.

Our New Car Park Is Open and Our Patients Love It

car parkk at our Southend Chiropractic ClinicOur new car park is in operation and we have received great feedback from the patients that have used it. The car park is just a two minute walk from the clinic and is located at the Sea Cadets facility on Milton Road. We are having signs made to help people use and find the car park.

Not only does using the car park benefit our patients but it also supports the Sea Cadets by providing them with income from the parking. A win-win for everyone.

The address of the car park is:

Sea Cadets
TS Implacable
Milton Road
Westcliff-on-Sea
Essex SS0 7JP

You’ll find the car park just over the railway bridge between St Bernard’s School and the clinic.

The parking accommodates 10 cars  and is accessible by coded and barrier entry with security lighting. The cost is £1 per visit to the clinic and cars MUST be moved once your time at the clinic is complete to allow other patients to park.

Autumn Days the Healthy Way!

The fallen leaves are crisp and crunchy, the weather is (usually) decent and beautiful outdoor spaces offer an ever-changing haven of natural wonders just waiting to be explored. Here at Cliffs Chiropractic Clinic in Southend, we believe there is no more of a magical time than autumn to get stuck into some fun and healthy activities with your family.

One of the healthiest and most fun activities you can enjoy with your family is leaf raking and jumping. Simply rake up a giant pile of leaves and jump in and enjoy! Your kids will absolutely love the freedom and frolics of rolling around in a heap and they’ll have plenty of giggles watching the grown-ups getting involved! There’s a bonus with this activity too – all that raking and jumping will give you all a super cardiovascular workout! So what’s not to like? You can even take some of the leaves home to make a pretty collage memory of the fun you’ve had.

Autumn is wonderful. Take advantage of what nature offers you.

Essential Halloween Safety

child health advice from Cliffs southend chiropractorsThe nights are drawing in, spooky pumpkins are filling up the supermarket shelves and there’s an eerie feeling in the air. Yep, Halloween is on its way; and many of us are already getting the preparations in place to celebrate.

We love Halloween here at Cliffs Chiropractic Clinic – so we’ve come up with a safety check list to ensure you and your family have your best one yet!

Safety on the Road

The traffic will probably be busier at Halloween, so make sure you and your family cross the roads carefully.

Put away any electronic devices and keep your eyes and ears focused on your surroundings.

Educate your children on the importance of making eye contact with drivers before crossing the road in front of them.

Be a good influence by making sure you and your kids always walk on pavements or paths. Children should walk on direct routes with the fewest street crossings possible.

Trick or Treat Safety

Make sure you or another responsible adult supervise children under the age of 12.  If your kids are old enough to be out without supervision, they should stick to familiar, well-lit areas and always trick or treat in large groups.

Costume Safety

Choose bright coloured costumes and decorate them with reflective tape or stickers.

Encourage your children to use face paint or make up instead of masks. Masks may look impressive, but they can obstruct their vision and place them at risk of injuries.

Give your kids a torch to carry while they’re out trick or treating. This will help them to see more clearly in the dark and be seen by drivers too!

Always try costumes on before Halloween. The last thing you want is you or your kids tripping over an oversized witch’s cape!

Driving Safety

Drive slowly and be mindful that there will be excitable children walking the streets at Halloween.

Enter and exit driveways slowly and carefully.

Take away any distractions from inside your car so that you can fully concentrate on the road and your surroundings.

The most common trick-or-treating hours are between 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. so be especially aware of children on the road during that time frame.

The safer you stay, the more fun you’ll have!

Benefit from a Massage from Sophie Our New Masseuse

Sophie smlWe are happy to introduce our new masseuse, Sophie.  Having been a patient at Cliffs herself, she is now a member of our team and we couldn’t be happier.

She is passionate about massage and its benefits as she knows how much massage can help people as she has experienced the benefits first hand from receiving regular treatments herself.

We all know that massage feels good but this is only one benefit of regular massage.

Many studies have shown that remedial massage can be beneficial for a number of problems from back pain to insomnia. Let’s run through some of the benefits of regular massage:

Corrects problems

Using specific techniques, a remedial massage therapist can address various problems such as injuries, joint issues or postural problems.

Reduces Stress

Massage brings on a feeling of calm and relaxation by encouraging the release of endorphins which are the chemicals that make us feel good. In turn stress inducing hormones are reduced.

Boosts immunity

The reduction in stress inducing hormones enables the immune system to function more effectively. Th effectiveness of the immune system is given a further boost with the increase in circulation and improvement in lymphatic drainage that massage stimulates.

Increases Mental Alertness

Mental clarity and alertness in increased as massage brings about a state of relaxation and removes stress.

Releases Muscle tension and pain

By focussing on problem areas with specific techniques massage can release muscle tension and pain whilst at the same time be oxygenating cells and removing toxins.

Increases Joint mobility

Massage can increase the range of movement in a joint by releasing tension around it.

Improves posture

By lengthening muscles and balancing the body, massage can correct many postural alignment issues. Many of these issues originate in the neck, shoulders and lower back.

Sophie is now on hand at Cliffs to help you benefit from the wonderful powers of remedial massage. You can call our reception team on 001702 430 430 to book an appointment with Sophie.

You can find out more about Sophie here.

Lisa Is Following Her Dream But There Is Hope At The Clinic

Hope smlAfter 5 fantastic, dedicated and laughter filled years at Cliffs Chiropractic, Lisa, decided it was time to follow her dream to help animals and train as a veterinary nurse.

We will all miss her but she will find it hard to forget us when she receives her monthly delivery of chocolate from Montezuma every month over the next year😊

But there is Hope at the clinic. Hope has joined the team with a big smile and keenness to learn from the front of clinic team.

What we look for in a new team member is enthusiasm, an empathetic spirit, fun loving, and a desire to contribute their uniqueness as part of a team that adds  positive note to your day.

We’ll let Hope introduce herself to you …

My name is Hope Spicer, I’m 23 years old and a professional dancer. I started dancing at the age of 2 and then carried on to a professional performing arts college.

Since graduating two years ago I have been lucky enough to perform on a UK tour and on a worldwide cruise ship travelling around Asia and the South Pacific.

I am really enjoying working at the Cliffs Chiropractic Clinic because it is always a busy, social environment and all the patients who attend are friendly and chatty and I love chatting!

How Many Chiropractors Does It Take To Make A Holiday?

Group PhotoAnswer: You can never have too many Chiropractors!

Melanie and Arif spent a great week in Dubrovnik with family and friends two of whom are chiropractor brother and sister. They are carrying on the family tradition as their father was a chiropractor and now two of their daughters are at chiropractic college.

Arif says, “We have all known each other for many years since before we had children and love catching up. We spend most of the week talking chiropractic, healthcare and where are we going for the next meal. One or two of us are also partial to an occasional glass of wine!” (Answers on a postcard to guess who!)

Arif also took his Cliffs Chiropractic Clinic T-shirt to the Croatian Coast:) Yes, Cliffs Chiropractic gets everywhere!

This year at least one of us was treated every day from acupuncture to rid the children of their verrucaes (yes it works and quickly!) to chiropractic for whiplash and herbal advice for detoxification.

Want to make a healthy start to 2015? A Chiropractor near leigh-on-Sea shares this advice on where to get healthy produce

You are what you eat’ is a very popular saying and it is a well-known fact that eating a healthy and balanced diet is vital for good health.

Although there are many diets out there, a healthy diet comes down to two main factors:

  •  Eating a wide variety of foods to ensure you’re getting all the nutrients you need
  • Consuming the right amount of calories in accordance to your lifestyle

The NHS ‘eatwell plate’ can help you work out what a balanced diet looks like. It also shows you how much of what you eat daily should come from each food group.

Here near Leigh-on-Sea we are extremely fortunate to have a regular farmers market that offers an array of produce. There is a regular market on Elm Road in Leigh-on-Sea that attracts over 30 producers. The next markets are on Friday 20th February and Friday 20th March both 9am – 12 noon.

If this is of interest to you, get yourself out on a Friday and pick up some healthy and nutritious produce.

How Cliffs Chiropractor Southend helped Allen J and his business

Many patients here at Cliffs Chiropractic Clinic have told us that their bad backs and other injuries have had major effects on their work life. Sitting, standing, lifting and walking can become major tasks if your back is bad and can therefore affect you at work.

After hearing about Cliffs Chiropractor Southend from a friend who was a patient at the clinic, Allen, who was suffering from a bad back, contacted the clinic to get some help. Allen injured his back whilst lifting heavy things at work, it got so bad that he was finding it hard to walk and even to carry on working at his own business.

Since Allen has been coming to Cliffs Chiropractor Clinic his back has been much better and now only visits for a bit of ‘maintenance’ work!

Here is a YouTube clip of Allen’s story:
