Back pain ‘cures’ we wouldn’t recommend

Suffering back pain can be challenging. It’s surprising how much of what we do involves our spine. The slightest movement can be excruciating. Therefore, it comes as no great surprise that some people suffering back pain will take up some of the strangest suggestions for ‘curing’ it.

Members of the British Chiropractic Association (BCA) have shared some of the strangest ‘cures’ back pain sufferers have tried. These include using WD40, drinking ones own urine and hanging off door frames.

Whilst we can only describe some of these as wacky, one common belief that many people have is that they should rest a bad back. Consumer research carried out by the BCA revealed that 50% of people believed this to be the case. This percentage increased to 64% in the 16 – 24 years old age group.

It may seem like a good idea to rest when you’re suffering back pain, however, in most cases this is the last thing we would recommend. It is important to keep moving and take moderate exercise even with back pain.

It is also important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Chiropractic offers a safe, effective and drug free treatment for back pain. With at least four out of five adults experiencing back pain at some point in their lives, low back pain is one of the most common conditions our team of experienced chiropractors treat at Cliffs Chiropractic in Southend.
