Car Park Usage

car parking at cliffs chiropractor southendWe have received such great feedback from our patients about the car park facilities that have been made available to us with the kind permission of the local Sea Cadets.

Unfortunately it seems that the car park is being used by some at times when the clinic is not open.

We really want to be respectful of the generosity of the Sea Cadets in allowing us to share their facility and therefore remind all our patients that the car park is only to be used when visiting the clinic.

The charge is £1 for parking which can be paid on arrival at the clinic.

We really appreciate your support with this.

Stay healthy and be sugar free – Cliffs Chiropractor Southend shares these tips

Recent studies have found that sugar is playing a massive part in the UK’s obesity problems. Sugar has lots of calories and has no nutritional value at all. With many of us consuming an alarming amount of it everyday, most of us don’t realise it’s hidden in many foods.

Consuming too much sugar can cause obesity and leads to many health problems such as diabetes and liver damage. Sugar can also affect your sleep, age your skin prematurely and affect your heart.

As lots of us are leading busy lives we end up eating processed foods and drink, as they are quick and simple to make. Here at our Chiropractor Southend we would like to share these tips on how to start eating a sugar free diet.

  •  Always check the label on foods. You should be looking for foods that have less than 5g per 100g of sugar. Also watch out for the words fructose, lactose and sucrose as they are all forms of sugar
  • Stop adding sugar to tea, coffee, and cereals. You can get plenty of healthy sugars from fruit and complex carbohydrates such as wholegrain pasta
  • Try to get as much exercise as you can, this will help burn off the sugar that you have consumed. 30 minutes is the recommended daily amount
  • Try to ditch processed and pre-packaged foods. Even lots of shop pasta sauces contain up to eight teaspoons of sugar. Make your own, it is healthier and quick and easy to do

If you follow these tips, you could be on your way to a healthier, sugar free diet in no time!

Do you have a distressed baby? Craniopathy at Cliffs Chiropractor Southend may be able to help

Many of you have been surprised by the number of pregnant ladies, babies and young children that attend the clinic.

Arif one of our Chiropractors at the clinic is a Fellow of the International Chiropractic Paediatric Association and Member of the Royal College of Chiropractic Paediatric Faculty.

Giving birth can sometimes atler the shape of the baby’s head and can make breathing quite hard for the baby. By gently using his hands and fingers to correct distortions and compressions to a baby’s cranium, spine and pelvis it is possible to alter the shape of the head, normalise neural function and restore a child to a peaceful, happy and healthy state. Improvements can be noticed in just a few days. Above all these are very safe procedures and highly preferable to medication.

Putting up your Christmas decorations? Take care of your back advises Cliffs Chiropractor Southend

Putting up the Christmas decorations for many of us is an important part of Christmas.

Some people have even added decorations to the outside of their homes, with whole streets getting involved. Whatever scale of display you are intending, we want you to keep yourself safe this Christmas, especially when it comes to keeping your back safe.

Here at Cliffs Chiropractor we have some top tips for keeping your back safe whilst getting ready for Christmas:

Buying the Tree

Take care when getting it into and to the car. Trees are heavy and especially awkward to lift and carry. Don’t be worried about asking for help and use a trolley to avoid straining yourself.

Putting up the decorations

Make sure you use a stepladder if you are hanging decorations up, you may also need to use it to decorate the tree, if it’s very big.

Keep safe when using a ladder:

  • Make sure it is planted securely so there is no chance that it will slip or wobble when you are up it. Better still have someone to hold it in place.
  • When using the ladder, always have your body facing the steps, keep your shoulders, hips and knees pointing in the same direction.

Gift wrapping

Use a table or worktop to do your wrapping on as opposed to the floor. This will help you avoid straining your back. Remember to straighten up regularly, stretch gently to loosen off your back and take regular breaks.

Improve your posture to keep fit at an old age shares Cliffs Chiropractor Southend

Being a leading Southend chiropractor we are aware that we are living in an era of significant population ageing. As we are living longer it is important that we know the significance that our posture plays in keeping us fit and active in our old age.

In 2012 a survey was carried out that highlighted the need for action and attention on watching your posture. With 48% of over 55’s admitting that they are a lot less active than they were 20 years ago and over 51% of over 55’s currently suffering from back and neck pain.

Here at Cliffs Chiropractor Southend we love to share advice. Below are a few tips on how to improve your posture at an old age.

  • Try to stay as active as you can. Adding just a few minutes of exercise or stretches a day could be of benefit.
  • Keep hydrated. The body works better when fluid levels are up and will keep you feeling energised.
  • Walking is a great way to stay fit. It is less strenuous on the joints and can help maintain bone density.
  • Look at ways to increase levels of activity, such as talking the stairs instead of the lift and walking instead of driving

Paracetamol and back pain – Advice from a leading Chiropractor in Southend

There are plenty of people suffering from back pain all across the country. It is not a nice thing to suffer from, it can be very painful, and it can make you lethargic and almost lazy and in the worst cases leave you unable to move. For some of us who suffer with back pain we will turn to a painkiller such as paracetamol to help us out, but does this actually do anything? As a busy Chiropractor in Southend one of the most common injuries my clients come in with is back pain and this leaves me well-placed to offer you advice on back pain and how to treat it.

Types of back pain

Back pain comes in all different shapes and sizes and the key to getting your treatment right is finding out which type of back pain you are suffering with. Being a busy Chiropractor in Southend I often have to diagnose the type of back pain. There are a few different types of back pain

Wear and tear –Quite simply as we get older our body gets older and wear and tear may contribute to back pain. The shock absorbing pads or discs on your spine can narrow with age and cause stiffness and pain.

Trapped nerves – Potentially the most serious type of back pain is that of trapped nerves, but essentially this can happen because of wear and tear or mechanical problems.

Mechanical – This is what the majority of people that suffer with back pain have. It means that there are no serious underlying issues and conditions and no trapped nerves. It is not always clear what causes mechanical back pain but it can often be because of poor posture and sitting in an uncomfortable position.

Paracetamol and coping with back pain

As a leading Chiropractor in Southend I get asked by patients if painkillers will help or which painkillers can I recommend. Many of us will take paracetamol to cope with back pain, some of you will think this helps but research carried out in Australia with 1650 sufferers of back pain begs to differ. The research looked at sufferers taking regular doses of the common painkiller and sufferers using a ‘placebo’ and saw no difference in the recovery time of the back pain sufferers.

This isn’t to say that medical advice should change on the basis of one study or that other painkillers won’t help but that paracetamol may not be as effective as you think. In any case a painkiller is likely to increase the recovery time.

Treating back pain

By taking painkillers you are hiding the problem and this can ultimately effect the recovery time. The best way to treat back pain is to visit a chiropractor. We are highly trained professionals that are governed by national regulations and we are experts in the field. As a Chiropractor in Southend I will often assess a patient to discover the true extent of any back pain before deciding upon a course of treatment. This will often involve manual sessions but can come in the form of acupuncture, life-style advice stretching exercises or general rehabilitation.

At our busy Chiropractors in Southend you can pop in for a chat or a one-to-one session to help find the root cause of your problems. Contact us on 01702 430430 or email us at info@CliffsChiro.co.uk
